Along the Route

Your safety is of the utmost importance to us

A limited number of route maps will also be available on the evening. 

Things you need to know

The check-in desk will open at 5:45pm; you must be signed in by 6.30 pm at the latest. The Star Shine Stroll will start at 7pm prompt. However, you need to arrive at least 40 minutes before the start to register and join in the warm up.

T-shirt collection points open at 6pm and closes at 6:40pm promptly

You can only collect your t-shirt once you have signed in. If you would prefer to collect your t-shirt prior to the walk (subject to delivery) please contact the fundraising team.  

Do I have to wear my t-shirt?

Yes please! It will create a fantastic sight for onlookers and from a health and safety perspective it will be easier to identify our walkers. We will also know that you have registered and have read and understood what you are signing up to!

Fancy Dress

Each year we have had lots of walkers add to the fun by turning up in funky outfits and pyjamas! (Almost) Anything goes, as long as we can see your SSS t-shirt!

Start and finish

Shelford Rugby Club. Parking is limited at the venue, please car share or arrange to be dropped off or collected where possible. You will need to enter the venue at second entrance as the main entrance will be off the limits for duration of the walk. As the event finishes late there is limited public transport.

Re-registering at the end

You must re-register at the end of the walk- just before you head off for your end of walk treat. If you fail to do so we will assume you are lost and will have to call your emergency contact in the middle of the night!

If it gets too much, you can take the 6.5 mile route. If you can’t finish the walk, that’s no problem but please don’t just disappear into the dark—give your full contact details to the nearest marshal who will arrange with the organisers to get you back to the start. 

Your safety is of the utmost importance to us. On the route, First aid will be provided and Raynet [a radio communication group] will provide additional safety support. The route is heavily marshalled by volunteer safety marshals, and the Air Cadet Force, throughout the duration of the walk.

You must stay on the designated route. Please do not cross over main roads which are not part of the route. You must listen to the guidance of safety stewards. No walker must pass the official walk leader. If you do so, it is entirely at your own risk. Do not walk on your own, if you are currently not walking in a group, encourage your friends to join you or come along to our "Friendship Zone" on the night where you can meet other walkers who also like to walk in a group.


As well as the toilets at the start/finish venue, there are rest points and toilet stops en-route. Please see the route map for guidance
